- Canadian rural emergency departments are increasingly experiencing closures. There are some misconceptions regarding the cause of closures.
- The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians reports that closures are more often systemic, which can manifest in a lack of staff and necessary infrastructure in rural communities.
- The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada maintains that local teams are necessary to provide timely response to life-threatening injuries.
