Target Audience & Estimated Reading Time: Member organizations | 3 minutes

Why it Matters

In the spirit of ongoing learning and respect, the Huron Perth & Area Ontario Health Team (HPA-OHT) has reviewed and updated its Land Acknowledgement Resource in collaboration with the EIDA-R Group. This update better reflects the histories, voices, and sovereignty of the Indigenous Nations whose territories we live and work on. It includes a new Action-Oriented Land Acknowledgement How-To and incorporates feedback from local Indigenous leaders to ensure the language is both accurate and meaningfully rooted in the Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action.

Dig Deeper

As part of our collective journey of learning and unlearning, HPA-OHT is committed to ongoing reconciliation with Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. This commitment is grounded in respectful relationships and guided by Calls to Action #19, #22, and #92. This updated resource outlines seven key actions we are taking as an OHT to support this work.

Additionally, HPA-OHT Secretariat Staff have developed personalized land acknowledgements as a reflection of their own commitments to reconciliation and decolonization. These acknowledgements aim to build relationships, embrace timelessness, and apply the lens of Two-eyed seeing through honouring both Indigenous and Western ways of knowing.

Next Steps

  • Share this updated resource within your organization.
  • Reflect on how your organization, and the individuals within it, can create personalized, action-oriented land acknowledgements as part of your reconciliation commitments.
