Why it matters
Ontario is making a historic $1.8 billion investment to expand primary care access, aiming to connect two million more people by 2029. Ontario Health Teams (OHTs) and Primary Care Networks play a key role in achieving this vision.
What’s happening
A memo from Ontario Health, authored by Deputy Minister Deborah Richardson, Ontario Health CEO Matthew Anderson, and Dr. Jane Philpott, calls on OHTs to:
- Identify and close attachment gaps.
- Develop strategies to ensure every person in their geography has access to primary care.
What’s next
Ontario Health is directing OHTs and Primary Care Networks begin assessing local attachment gaps and aligning resources to meet the province’s connected, team-based care vision.
The HPA-OHT has already completed the readiness assessment and has pulled together a Working Group Co-Chaired by HPA-OHT Primary Care Leads Dr. Kim Gilmour and Dr. Paul Gill with representation from across the region including Dr. Joel Brown, Dr. Erin Glass, Dr. Skylar Van Osch, Dr. Jocelyn Traher, Kari Johnson, NP, Judy Gardiner, NP, Julie Murtha, NP, Dr. Tom Haffner, Dr. Neil Rittenhouse and Ralph Ganter, Executive Director Community Health Centre and Robin Spence Haffner, Executive Director Listowel – Wingham Family Health Team who will define the structure and work going forward for Huron Perth and Area.
