Why it matters

The Minister’s Patient and Family Advisory Council (MPFAC) plays a vital role in shaping Ontario’s healthcare system by incorporating the viewpoints of patients, families, and caregivers. Their 2023-24 Annual Report highlights how these voices propel health system transformation, including Ontario Health Teams (OHTs). This effort is not merely theoretical—it directly impacts policy and care delivery throughout the province.

We’re proud to highlight Shannon McGavin, a dedicated Huron Perth and Area Patient Family Caregiver Advisory Council representative who serves on the MPFAC, further solidifying the patient, family, and caregiver perspective in our work.

Next steps

We are actively recruiting a new PFAC member with data expertise for our own Advisory Council. Please share this opportunity with any patient partners in your network and direct interested candidates to our PFAC webpage.

Dig deeper

The MPFAC’s latest report, “Stewardship: Redefining Leadership and Shaping Health Care with Patients, Families, and Caregivers,” showcases the Council’s impact on health care transformation. It details how their insights are being used to inform decisions at the ministry level, particularly in areas like the implementation of Ontario Health Teams.
