Can you tell us a bit about your role and your area of expertise?

I am a family physician who wears several different hats. I spend most of my time caring for my roster of approximately 1,400 patients at the Tavistock Community Health Clinic. In addition, I serve as the family physician consultant for HPHA’s Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program and as the house physician for two local retirement homes. I also sit on the board of directors for the STAR Family Health Team.

What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare, and what continues to motivate you in your work today?

I am a scientist at heart. When I began my undergraduate studies in biochemistry, I had plans to pursue a career in research. My time working in labs helped me realize that I wanted a more direct, human connection in my work. I was drawn to medicine as a way to use my love of science to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. That purpose continues to motivate me every day: using my knowledge and expertise to provide my patients with the best possible care.

What is the best part of my current role and overall career?

Having been in practice since 2017, I have come to realize that the most meaningful part of my work is the long-term relationships I’ve built with my patients. Getting to know people over many years, and caring for them through all ages and stages of life—through both joyful milestones and difficult moments—is a true privilege. Some of the individuals I once cared for as teenagers are now starting their own families. I genuinely look forward to the later stages of my career, when I may have the opportunity to care for the babies of patients I once cared for as babies themselves.

What work have you done with the Huron Perth & Area Ontario Health Team (HPA-OHT)?

I helped to create a pilot project aimed at reducing the administrative burden for family physicians who are taking on new patients, using Ocean technology.

Outside of work, what helps you recharge?

I have three active, school-aged children who keep me very busy—I’m a hockey mom, soccer mom, dance mom, and gymnastics mom. I’m also an avid recreational runner. My husband and I spent this past summer training for our first marathon, the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which we completed in October. In addition, I achieved three top-10 age-group finishes in 2025 in the 25 km, 10 km, and 3 km races.
