EIDA-R Education Campaign Phase 5: Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Safety

Target Audience & Estimated Reading Time: Healthcare leadership, staff, and partners | 3 minutes

Why it Matters

Improving health outcomes for Indigenous peoples requires more than clinical expertise; it calls for personal and collective commitments to truth, respect, and reconciliation. Supporting learners to engage with Indigenous voices, honour traditional knowledge systems, and address systemic barriers that continue to impact Indigenous communities is essential to building inclusive, culturally safe care environments and advancing equity in healthcare.

Dig Deeper

The Huron Perth & Area Ontario Health Team (HPA-OHT) is currently promoting Phase 5 of the EIDA-R Education Campaign – Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Safety.

Phase 5 fosters a deeper understanding of the unique histories, cultures, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples. For settlers, this is an opportunity to fulfill treaty obligations, recognize one’s role as a treaty person, and contribute to a foundation of mutual respect and healing.

About the Phase:

  • A series of eight modules, with an estimated completion time of 12 hours.
  • Participants will:
    • Learn about Indigenous histories, cultural traditions, and the ongoing impacts of colonialism on healthcare.
    • Develop skills to provide culturally safe and respectful care.
    • Gain tools to address systemic inequities and strengthen partnerships with Indigenous communities.
