Member Spotlight: Perth-Huron Centre for Children and Youth

A Legacy of Compassionate Care

Since 1977, the Huron-Perth Centre for Children and Youth (HPC) has been a cornerstone of mental health support in the Huron-Perth region. As an accredited community-based mental health centre, HPC offers comprehensive assessment and treatment services for children and youth up to their 18th birthday. Over the years, the Centre has expanded its reach, now providing vital services for adults facing violence in intimate relationships, demonstrating its commitment to holistic community well-being.

Leadership in Mental Health Services

In 2014, HPC was designated as the Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health in Huron and Perth counties. This pivotal role underscores the Centre’s dedication to shaping and improving local mental health service systems. Funded by multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and the Ministry of Attorney General, HPC ensures all services remain free of charge, effectively removing financial barriers to essential mental health care.

Core Services and Values

HPC’s approach is rooted in the belief that positive relationships are fundamental to healing and realizing potential. The Centre’s core values guide every aspect of its services:

  • Strengths: Focusing on individual and family capabilities
  • Family: Recognizing the importance of familial support in recovery
  • Dignity & Worth: Respecting the inherent value of each individual
  • Collaboration: Working together with clients, families, and community partners

These values ensure a supportive and empowering environment for all who seek help at HPC.

HPA-OHT Initiatives Participation

HPC is an active and engaged member of the HPA-OHT’s Mental Health & Addictions working group. Through this collaborative effort, HPC is making significant contributions to the development and implementation of an integrated and standardized Stepped Care Model. This innovative project aims to:

  1. Reduce barriers to access by centralizing intake processes
  2. Enhance digital health and virtual care options
  3. Improve service coordination through standardized referral processes
  4. Implement collaborative care plans

HPC’s involvement in these initiatives underscores their unwavering commitment to improving mental health outcomes across the region. By participating in projects that enhance local capacity for specialist and acute care services, HPC is helping to create a more responsive and effective mental healthcare system for the Huron-Perth community.
